Cultural Tour and Safari in Northern Tanzania
7 days, 6 nights
Depart from Arusha to Metto Cultural which is about 25 km from Arusha town. There you will see the historical graves of the first German missionaries, viewpoints of Kilimanjaro and Meru, and a local primary school. You will also have the opportunity to experience the culture of the Meru people by participating in village activities. In the evening you will take a short hike to a viewpoint where you will enjoy coffee/tea while watching the sun set. After returning to the village campsite where you will spend the night, enjoy a homemade Swahili dinner.
After breakfast you will drive to Serengeti National Park through Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Before entering the park you will have a picnic lunch. In Serengeti, your first wildlife experience will be a sunset game drive. You spend the night in the centre of this famous national park, either camping or at a lodge.
Your sunrise game drive will take place before breakfast and you will be able to see herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffe, various antelope species, birds and the big cats. Then you will return to the campsite or lodge for a splendid brunch, and a nice rest before your second sunset game drive leaving later in the afternoon. You will spend the night in the campsite or lodge.
After another early morning game drive and brunch you will continue to spot animals while you are en route to Ngorongoro Crater. You will arrive at the crater at the end of the day and spend the night at the rim of the crater in a campsite or lodge, both with fantastic views.
After an early breakfast you will descend to the crater floor. You will then pass Magadi Lake, home to flamingos and other aquatic birds. You will visit the hippo pool, see wildebeests, zebra and hyenas. If you are lucky you may also spot one of the several rhinos or cheetahs living in the crater. After a picnic lunch you journey out the crater will begin. If you are afraid of heights; close your eyes! It is a very steep ascent back to the rim. You will overnight in Karatu camping or staying in a lodge.
Drive to Lake Eyasi to visit the Hadzabe bushmen, this tribe of two hundred families depends on hunting and gathering for their livelihood. You will have a chance to learn about their culture and meet traditional healers. Later in the evening you will have dinner and overnight at the campsite or lodge.
After breakfast you can participate in hunting activities, see how poison arrows are made and collect honey. After all of these experiences, with regret, you will drive back to Arusha.
Hadzabe people in Lake Eyasi
Classic Northern Circuit Safari Tanzania
5 days, 4 nights visiting Tarangire or Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
Leave from Arusha to Tarangire or Arusha National Park (depending on the season) for a game drive. Tarangire is famous for its Baobab trees and herds of elephants. In Arusha National Park you can visit Momella Lakes, and see Colobus monkeys in the forest trees. Dinner and overnight in a camp or lodge.
Early in the morning you will drive to Lake Manyara, home of a abundant variety of animals including families of baboons and lions that live in trees! You will also see the beautiful forest line of the Great Rift Valley wall. Dinner and overnight in Mto wa Mbu either camping or in a lodge.
You will drive to Serengeti, passing Ngorongoro viewpoint and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You can also choose to visit Olduvai Gorge, the birthplace of man. Finish the day with a sunset game drive through Serengeti National Park where you also spend the night in a campsite or lodge.
